This is what M Venkaiah Naidu has to say about one day ban on NDTV, an Indian channel

Social media is trending from last few days on the news of asking NDTV, an Indian TV channel to go off air for a day but current Govt. Reasons are related to reporting of channel on Pathankot terrorist attack. This is what Information & Broadcasting Minister Mr. M Venkaiah Naidu wrote in a Facebook post.

Happy that countrymen broadly supported government’s decision on NDTV India in security interest of the county in the context of terror menace and the need to exercise restraint while reporting anti-terror operations by security personnel.

Decision on NDTV India only a logical conclusion of concerns voiced by UPA Govt over live coverage of anti-terror operations since 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. UPA issued several advisories calling for restraint. UPA govt even said violation of coverage norms amounts to coverage against national interest.

BJP leaders and activists worst sufferers of emergency and can’t even think of doing the same to others, Highly regards media and its freedom and will never do any infringement of such freedom. Unfortunately, NDTV India did not put such freedom to good use.

Both UPA, NDA govts voiced concern over violation of advisories on coverage code violations while reporting on anti-terror ops. As security of country is a major concern, a rule was made in March this year requiring tv channels to go by official briefings so that security interests not jeopardised.

UPA govt took tv channels off air 21 times for showing objectional visuals and A grade certified films at the stroke of midnight when children, young fast asleep. isn’t showing anti-terror ops live in broad day light a more serious threat to country? people know which is a serious concern.

Its time to ponder if security of the nation is important or TRPs -television rating points of tv channels.

Freedom of press is important, Country’s security can’t be compromised , that is paramount.
